The BLS does more than just extend a hand of friendship to women living in Kuwait – we also offer women a meaningful way to get involved and make a difference. The women of the British Ladies Society believe strongly in supporting charitable causes and giving back to the community, both here in Kuwait and internationally. Therefore we strive to make fund-raising an integral part of all our events and activities.
Each year the membership nominates and selects a few worthy charities to receive a percentage of the proceeds from all BLS activities for the upcoming year. Donations are usually made at the end of the Society year, in June. Since 1993 The British Ladies Society has collected over 162,104.748KD.
For the 2006/2007 Society year, the BLS donated over 16,000 KD to five organizations: KAACH in Kuwait and Port Alfred Child Welfare in South Africa; and in the UK, The Earl Hague Fund, Baby Lifeline and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
For the 2007/2008 Society year, the BLS donated over 6,400 KD to KACCH in Kuwait as well as the Special Care Baby Unit Endowment Fund at the Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
For the 2008/2009 Society year, the BLS donated 6,800 KD to both of our supported charities - Operation Hope in Kuwait and the Children's Hospice in the UK.
For the 2009/2010 Society year, the BLS donated 5800 KD Operation Hope in Kuwait and 6100 KD to Breakthough Breast Cancer in the UK.
For the 2010/2011 Society year, the BLS are pleased to support BACH in Kuwait and Breakthrough Breast Cancer in the UK.
Kuwait Charity
Bayt Abdullah Children's Hospice is a dream based on the promise made to Abdullah which will allow children with terminal conditions to be looked after at home or in the hospice itself.
Breakthrough is the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research, campaigning and education. Our essence comes from the thousands of people who are committed to a single vision - to work for a future free from the fear of breast cancer.
